Prince
Henrik, consort of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, dies aged 83.
Having
surpassed the milestone of 44 years on the throne, King Carl XVI of Sweden
becomes the longest reigning monarch in his country’s history.
With
encouragement from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and Northern Ireland,
Commonwealth leaders unanimously agree that the heir to the British throne,
Prince Charles, should succeed Queen Elizabeth II as Head of the Commonwealth
of Nations- a position which is not hereditary.
